Profound Review for B2B Teams Now That Pricing Is Custom

This Profound review is for B2B teams weighing the tool after its September 2026 pricing change. Profound's public brand pricing now offers a free 7-day trial or a custom Enterprise quote, so reviews that quote the old Starter and Growth prices no longer match the pricing page. Reading one of them is like ordering from a menu you found in an old drawer.
We don't sell AI visibility software. This review draws on vendor documentation, published pricing and third-party reviews rather than a hands-on test, and we checked every source on 28 September 2026. Here's where Profound stands.
Key takeaways:
- Profound tracks how AI engines answer about your brand, then runs agents to act on what it finds.
- Its public brand pricing is now a free 7-day trial and custom Enterprise contracts.
- Check who wrote any review you read, because competing vendors have a reason to steer you to their own tool.
- If budget is tight, compare the Enterprise quote with alternatives that publish their prices.
What does Profound do?
Profound measures how AI engines describe your brand, then helps you act on what it finds. It runs a fixed set of prompts through AI engines every day and records mentions, citations, sentiment and competitor presence. Those measure different things, as our guide to AI citations vs mentions explains.
Four parts do most of the work:
- Answer Engine Insights is the prompt tracker.
- Prompt Volumes estimates demand from real AI conversations collected through opted-in consumer panels, then uses statistical modeling to project beyond the sample. Treat it as a demand estimate with coverage and modeling limits, not a count of every conversation.
- Agent Analytics reads AI crawler visits from CDN logs such as Cloudflare, Vercel and Akamai, and AI-referred traffic through Google Analytics.
- Agents and AI Marketer are the newer part, and where the company is heading. The agents run marketing tasks such as content briefs and refreshes, and AI Marketer coordinates them across a team.
Ads Studio launched in private beta in July 2026 for creating and managing ChatGPT ads. Profound's September announcement describes a broader advertising workflow across OpenAI, Google and Meta, so confirm access and supported integrations when you get a quote.
Enterprise plans track up to nine engines: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Mode, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, Claude, DeepSeek and Exa Search.
How much does Profound cost now?
Profound's live pricing page shows two options for brands: a free trial and a custom Enterprise package.
Agencies get a separate plan. Profound's pricing FAQ mentions a self-serve Agency Growth plan with 400 agent credits per client workspace each month.
As of 28 September 2026, Starter and Growth no longer appear on the public brand pricing page. That tells you what Profound offers publicly, not what existing customers pay or whether sales will make exceptions. We haven't confirmed the exact date the page changed.
The Enterprise focus fits Profound's $180 million Series D at a $1.8 billion valuation, announced on 15 September 2026 (Profound's Series D announcement). Our read is that Profound is leaning further into large marketing programs. Its pricing page pitches Enterprise at companies running AI search and agents at scale, but neither the announcement nor the page tells you what your quote will be.
What do users praise and criticize?
Users praise Profound's data depth and support, and criticize its price and learning curve. As of 28 September 2026, Profound held a 4.5 out of 5 rating from 1,130 reviews on G2, with recurring praise for prompt insights, competitor views and a responsive team.
The complaints are consistent too. Several reviewers call it expensive next to other tools, and some say the platform takes time to learn. A few also want deeper integrations with the rest of their marketing stack.
Surfer's review raises a sharper question about Prompt Volumes. The author says they couldn't test the feature because it required Enterprise access, so they questioned example figures that ranked topics differently from Google search demand (Surfer's Profound review). Surfer sells a competing AI tracker, so weigh its verdict accordingly.
Different rankings across Google and AI conversations don't prove the estimates are wrong on their own. Profound describes its method as real panel data combined with statistical modeling. The useful questions are which users and engines the panel covers, how the estimates are calculated, and how much uncertainty sits behind the number.
A precise-looking number still deserves a few impolite questions. The Surfer example is also a reminder to check who benefits from a verdict: separate what a reviewer tested from what they inferred, and read the recommendation with the commercial relationship in mind.
Profound review verdict: who's it for?
Profound fits companies that treat AI search as its own channel, have people to act on what the agents produce, and can sign a custom contract. For them, the depth that reviewers praise is the point.
For a smaller B2B team, the decision turns on the quote and the work you need Profound to do. A 7-day trial shows you the interface, but it won't give you an ongoing measurement plan. The trial also uses recommended prompts you can't customize, and there's no published middle tier for brands.
If you mainly need a tracker on a predictable budget, compare published-price alternatives before you commit. Somewhere in a quarterly review, someone will ask, "Is our AI visibility going up?", and a 7-day trial can't answer with a trend. If Profound's agents could replace time-consuming work, count that value in the comparison.
AI visibility scores move from run to run. In SparkToro's research with Gumshoe, 600 volunteers collected 2,961 responses to 12 prompts across ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI. Complete recommendation lists were highly inconsistent, but how often a brand appeared across repeated runs was still useful.
The study doesn't set a minimum number of weeks or months to track. It supports looking at repeated observations rather than treating one answer as your ranking.
Before any contract, ask two questions:
- What's the run-to-run variance on an identical prompt?
- Are branded prompts reported separately from discovery prompts, where the buyer hasn't named a vendor yet? That split is the core of how we measure AI share of voice.
Profound's Series D release says it serves more than 1,000 enterprise brands, including more than a third of the Fortune 100. That's the company's own figure, and it describes the customer the pricing page is now built for.
Which Profound alternatives should you consider?
Peec AI, AthenaHQ and Scrunch are three Profound alternatives to compare for AI visibility tracking. All three publish entry plans, though their tracking allowances and workflow features differ. The figures below are the vendor details we could verify on 28 September 2026, and Scrunch's official pages gave conflicting details.
Peec suits teams buying their first AI visibility tool. Its pricing page confirms 50 prompts and three selected models on Starter and 150 prompts on Pro, and Peec's own published pricing information lists $95 and $245 a month for those plans. Confirm the current amount and billing cycle at checkout.
AthenaHQ suits teams that want broad engine coverage at a published price, with 11 models on its Starter plan. One credit buys one AI response, so 3,600 credits spread across every engine covers far fewer prompts than the number suggests (AthenaHQ plans).
Scrunch adds site audits and page optimization to tracking, but its pricing needs a closer look. The official Core FAQ lists $250 a month, 125 prompts and four AI platforms. Another version of the pricing page showed Starter at $250 a month billed annually or $300 month-to-month, with 350 custom prompts.
Ask Scrunch which plan and limits apply before you compare annual costs. The wider field is mapped in our LLM SEO tools landscape.
Teams already paying for an enterprise SEO suite should check its AI module first. BrightEdge added AI Hyper Cube and Conductor added AgentStack in 2026, on top of AI features both have sold since 2025.
FAQs
Buy the tracker you can run for a year
Choose a tracker you can afford to keep using. Budgeting for twelve months is a practical way to compare costs, not a rule for when the data becomes reliable; that depends on relevant prompts and repeated observations.
If Profound's quote fits and your team can use its agents, it deserves a look. If not, a simpler tool may be the better buy.
